Ohio State students use electron microscopy and X-ray spectroscopy to compare toasters

NY Times - Toaster Story

Contributors to The New York Times’ Wirecutter recently recruited students from Ohio State’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering to help determine why modern toasters don’t work as well as their predecessors.

The students involved in the project leveraged the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS) for electron microscopy and X-ray spectroscopy to determine the composition of the toaster heating elements.
