Be a part of the Cryo-EM Resolution Revolution at CEMAS

Posted:

The Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS) is at the forefront in the convergence of physical and life sciences. Our multidisciplinary approach drives synergy, amplifies characterization capabilities in order to challenge “what is possible” in electron microscopy. We're challenging the current characterization limitations in medicine, environmental science, energy materials, and beyond.

Located in a custom designed facility, every one of our fourteen electron and ion microscopes is meeting or exceeding manufacturer performance specifications. CEMAS has recently installed a Thermo Fisher Scientific Glacios cryo-TEM with a Falcon III direct electron detector with STEM, as well as TEM tomography capabilities. This will complement the upcoming installation of a Titan Krios with a K3 Bioquantum direct electron detector, imaging phase plates, STEM/TEM tomography and an image spherical aberration corrector.

As part of this investment, we are seeking motivated and enthusiastic scientists who will have the opportunity to collaborate with an extensive, multi-disciplinary team of faculty and scientists within CEMAS, at The Ohio State University, The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – The James, and more. Working together and utilizing state-of-the-art facilities and technologies, these scientists will have the opportunity to be a part of a world-renowned team tasked with solving the world’s toughest challenges in medicine and beyond.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to…

  • engage in life science research development
  • contribute to projects of real medical impact
  • improve health research in more meaningful ways, now and for generations to come
  • deliver best in class results
  • develop new methods of imaging spectrometer data
  • participate and apply research in single particle and tomography studies
  • contribute to technique developments using advanced technologies including phase plates and image aberration correction
  • develop workflows for efficient and high end data collection
  • provide guidance on new scientific directions that could have an impact on improving services provided by the facility
  • help establish cryo-electron microscopy as a tool to drive Ohio State’s research forward

…then CEMAS may be the place for you.
