Discussion Description:
The “resolution revolution” has transformed cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), making it possible to achieve near-atomic level resolution of macromolecules. This seminar is designed to be a brief introduction into cryo-EM where we outline the basic cryo-EM workflow and explain how such a significant improvement in resolution was achieved. We will also discuss the strengths and limitations of this method. Finally, we will review some of the recent structural work completed on SARS-CoV-2 as a powerful example of how cryo-EM is rapidly advancing biomedical research.
