Teaching
World-class education in the theory of electron microscopy and all aspects of its use and operation is at the heart of our mission. Through the use of our virtual learning digital theater, we provide live access to CEMAS instrumentation in real time within a state-of-the-art classroom environment to meet every microscopy need.
We currently partner with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University on the following courses:
Structure and Characterization Lab (MATSCEN 2331)
Experiments on X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, and stereology with applications. Statistical treatment of data and technical reporting.

Advanced Metals Laboratory (MATSCEN 5431)
Advanced laboratory covering various topics in metallic materials.

Principles of the Characterization of Materials (MATSCEN 6715)
Fundamentals of beam-solid interactions and their application to the characterizing the structure and composition of materials. The emphasis of this course will be on techniques utilizing X-ray and electron probes.

Practical Scanning Electron Microscopy Laboratory (MATSCEN 6740)
Provides basic understanding of scanning electron microscopy characterization methods, understanding of sample preparation & compatibility, various imaging modes, and analytical techniques. This course focuses primarily on the practical operation of a scanning electron microscope, and not on its theoretical background.
Completion of this course with a passing grade will allow users access to reserve respective CEMAS equipment after demonstrating practical understanding of operation and techniques. Training costs are included in tuition and are at no cost to the Advisor/Principal Investigator.

Practical Transmission Electron Microscopy Lab (MATSCEN 6741)
Transmission Electron Microscopy with emphasis on practical methods.
