Research Associate 2-Engineer

Position Overview
This position performs multidisciplinary training and research with the Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) and Focused Ion Beam (FIB) Microscopes at the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS); trains users on equipment; initiates and conducts detailed, complex scientific experiments, functioning as a subject matter expert or technical consultant on one or more phases of the project(s); assists in the development of major experimental designs, written procedures for experimental data analysis and the application of electron microscopy and spectroscopy methods; assumes the duties of TEM Instrument Manager and assists other instrument managers with various aspects of operations and maintenance; advises users on sample preparation; submits research proposals to government and private agencies.


Master's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in engineering. Considerable experience in an engineering research capacity, including but not limited to transmission or scanning electron microscopy, FIB milling and TEM sample preparation, and collecting and processing spectroscopy data; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; may need to occasionally lift Liquid Nitrogen containers, weighing up to 30 pounds.
